Thai foundation eyes investment opportunities in Lao Cai

VietBusinessNews - A Thai delegation from the Mae Fah Luang Foundation visited Lao Cai province in the north of Vietnam on Feb. 3 to investigate investment opportunities in the fields of poverty reduction and sustainable development.

The delegation, led by Narong ApiChai, was informed of the potential offered by the province, particularly in agriculture and community tourism, by Bui Thi Kim Dung, vice chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee.

Following a meeting with local officials, the delegation spent time studying Sapa district’s Ta Van commune, where it plans to launch a pilot project.

The foundation has a track record of success with the Doi Tung Project in Thailand , as well as in Myanmar , Indonesia and Afghanistan , providing a model for sustainable development in impoverished rural areas.

In 2008, Lao Cai province sent a delegation to Thailand in order to learn from its experiences in developing rural areas, and approached the foundation to suggest investment opportunities in the area. (VNA)
