Among those present at the event were Do Muoi, former chairman of the Ministers’ Council and the Party General Secretary, Gen. Le Duc Anh, former State President and Minister of Defence, Tran Duc Luong, former State President and Deputy Prime Minister, Phan Van Khai, former Prime Minister, and other former deputy prime ministers and ministers.
PM Nguyen Tan Dung extended wishes of good health to the former senior officials and thanked them for the advice and assistance that they have given to the incumbent government.
Taking a broad view of events during 2008, Dung said that the country enjoyed successes in stabilising the macro-economy and maintaining economic growth at 6.23 percent, as well as maintaining social welfare, national security and defence, and in attaining education, healthcare and poverty reduction goals.
Expecting huge challenges ahead, the PM said that the government would appreciate the help of the former cabinet members, viewing their support as a significant resource to help the government achieve its aims.
The twelfth government would make every effort to ensure that it deserves the trust of the Party, State and people, Dung vowed. (VNA)
