Cinema business during Tet increases

VietBusinessNews - An average of 6,000 movie fans visited Megastar Cineplex Hung Vuong Plaza each day during the recent week-long Tet holiday (Lunar New Year), a 30-35% increase over normal days and last Tet, according to MegaStar Media Co., a joint venture between Envoy Media Partners Ltd (British Virgin Islands) and local Phuong Nam Corp.

Andy Quach, Megastar marketing officer, said that the Megastar name has become more popular so ticket sales are up. But due to the recent openings the company could not count the exact number of arrivals at the Megastar CT Plaza and Megastar Saigon Paragon this Tet.

Tran Nhut Anh Loan, managing director of Saigon Movies Media Joint Stock Co., or Saigon Media, said that this Tet cinemas under the company’s management, including Thang Long, Dong Da and Toan Thang, sold 100,000 tickets a day, same as last Tet. “This number was threefold compared to normal days,” Loan added.

Galaxy cinemas, managed by Thien Ngan Galaxy Co., sold nearly 5,000 tickets a day during Tet, up 40-50% on normal days and the same as last Tet.

Demand for entertainment, going to movies in particular, remains high despite the global economic woes. (SGT)
